Employment Practices Liability is the most costly claim area for Public Entity Partner members leading to significant financial loss for local governments. One key way that local governments can reduce their exposure in this area is by conducting unbiased, fair, and thorough internal investigations when employment practices complaints arise. This session will walk participants through the internal investigation process, including, who is authorized or qualified to investigate complaints, provide guidance to supervisors and key personnel on how to conduct the investigation, and will provide sample questions that guide accurate investigations for supervisors. Creating a specific process to manage and mitigate risk in the area of employment practices is a necessary component of an enterprise risk management approach.
