While the use of deadly force is uncommon, the aftermath of such an event impacts not just the officer(s) involved but the police department, the city and the community as a whole, especially in today’s media-driven society.  This session will discuss the changing legal environment of officer-involved shootings and will highlight a few high-profile cases in which officers have been criminally charged.  The session will also discuss how police departments and cities can be better prepared for the changing landscape of officer involved shootings.
